Flag Retirement Barrels
Ever since the 9/11 terrorist attack on our soil, there has been an increased feeling of patriotism in the United States. Along with that patriotism there has been a significant increase in flag purchase to show our patriotism.
As time goes on the flags become worn, torn or just faded to the point that the flags should be replaced with a new one. Many in our communities do not know what to do with the flag that is being replaced. A National flag is never to be discarded in a trash container.
The Private Henry Kalinowski Detachment has placed barrels at strategic locations around the area for the flags to be placed for retirement.
The members keep a watchful eye on the barrels and remove the flags for future retirement.
Retirement date for the flags will be June 14th., Flag Day. The process for retirement is to have a prayer service and then retire the flags by proper burning. The ceremony is done by Veterans within our county.(click here to see our ceremony)
If you have a flag that is worn, torn or you feel it is unfit to fly, please do not discard in a trash container. Honor the flag by placing the flag in one of the barrels or taking the flag to a service organization of your choice.
